Helping Our Brothers and Sisters in the West

Our hearts are with those affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western NC. Here's what we're doing to help, and how you can be involved:

Flood Buckets

We are collecting items and funds for flood buckets. A flood bucket (aka cleaning kit) contains a prescribed list of items used to help clean-up after a storm or natural disaster.

You can:

  • Purchase items needed and drop them off in the collection bin (in the narthex, Bradley Hall and HCC entrance) by Oct. 6. Items needed are listed here.
  • Put together a bucket as a family project. All of the items can be purchased locally from Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Dollar General, etc. The approx. cost for a complete bucket is $75. Please drop off your completed bucket by Oct. 6.
  • Make a contribution! You can make a donation here or you can text "HUMCR FloodBuckets" to 73256 to give using your mobile device.

100% of the proceeds will go toward flood buckets and storm relief. Thank you to Highland Children's Ministries for initiating and organizing this effort for us!

Highland Disaster Team Deploying

The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church has called on Highland’s Disaster Response Team to respond to the catastrophic disaster in the NC mountains. Our team will leave on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, for Spruce Pine, NC, for at least four days of hazardous tree work.

A trip such as this requires many resources, such as food, ice, fuel, and cooking and sleeping supplies. Our team will have to carry everything we need with us, which represents a large financial expenditure. Please consider a donation to our church’s team. Simply write Disaster Team in your check memo, or contribute online here.

Our team is the only Disaster Hazard Tree Team in our state. Our team thanks
you with all of our heart for your contributions to help us assist those that cannot help themselves. Along with our tree work, our first and foremost mission is: "to provide a loving and caring Christian Presence to those in need".

If you would like to join our team, or would like more information about our trip,
contact Cullen Whitley (cullen.whitley@gmail.com) 919-314-7044.
Please keep Highland’s Disaster Response Team and those in harm's way in the NC mountains in your prayers.
