Along with having around 7 people each Saturday build day, we will also be providing part of lunch for half of the workdays.

Highland partners with Habitat

Highland has a long a fruitful partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. We have helped to build a Habitat house every 2-3 years for at least 18 years, though our Habitat connection goes back much longer than that.

Most recently, we partnered with the Interfaith Coalition in early 2022 to build a home for Courtney Maready and her son Adrian. While in the process of fundraising for that build, a new-to-Highland family asked questions about Habitat for Humanity's work here in Wake County and how working families can apply to become homeowners. In October, that Highland family -- Jenny Smearman and her two children -- became Habitat homeowners and moved in to the house next door to the Mareadys. (The Mareadys and Smearmans are pictured in front of their homes)

For those who may not be familiar, Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical organization dedicated to partnering with families and communities to build and preserve safe and affordable homes; they are also dedicated to advocating for better housing legislation.

Habitat Memories

Here are just a few of the images from Highland's last Habitat for Humanity house in 2022.
