Sleep Out to End Homelessness

Sleep Out to End Homelessness

Friday, September 18

We're pitching our tents on the front lawn of the church for our annual "Sleep Out."

Our goals are:

-to learn about homelessness in our community and how we can help

-to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing in Wake County

-to raise money to support Family Promise

-to have fun in the process!

Join Us!

We share a meal together and then spend a portion of the evening learning a little more about the need for affordable housing in our area/state/county.  It also includes plenty of time for playing and visiting together (we usually have a campfire with s’mores and a movie as the evening winds down).

This year, we have a big project related to the Sleep Out.  We said "yes" to providing the noon meal at Oak City Cares on Sunday, Sept. 20.  OCC provides a hot meal to hungry Raleigh folks on the weekends when the usual meal serving agencies are closed.  They have asked us to prepare to feed 250 people!  We will spend a portion of the time on Friday evening preparing the meal and then we will need a group of folks to help deliver and serve the meal on Sunday.

This project will give us an opportunity for hands-on mission work.  And it will give us an opportunity to talk about where people experiencing homelessness get their meals.

Support Us!

So if urban camping is not your thing--or if you are unavailable on Sept. 18, you can still be part of our effort by making a pledge/gift to Family Promise.

Support us!

Just a reminder:

This is not a drop-off event.  Parents will need to participate with their children.  Thank you.

There is no cost to participate in the Sleep Out.  Everyone is welcome and if you don’t have a tent, we will find one for you.

If you would like to help with the meal, but can’t camp out with us---we would still welcome your help.
