Highland Service Project Sign Ups

Group requirements

Each group must have for every 4 (or portion of 4) youth:

  • 5 gallon water cooler, labeled with church name.
  • Large cooler for lunch, labeled with church name.
  • Large passenger van (or extended-cab pickup with seating for 6) for a work team of 6 plus tools, supplies, and coolers. (Standard mini-vans have proven inadequate for the job.)
  • Two adults (age 21 or older; 25 or older if driving youth.)

Application process and deadlines

Church group leaders should send a completed Group Application form along with a $100 deposit per participant by March 15, 2020.  We will notify you of acceptance by March 30, 2020. We need your completed Final Roster form accompanied by all completed, signed and notarized (as needed) participant forms and the balance of your payment by May 1, 2020.  (Checks should be made out to Highland Service Project.)

Cancellation policy:
Groups cancelling before May 1, 2020 will forfeit 50% of their deposit.  Groups cancelling after May 1, 2020 will forfeit their entire deposit.

Group leader checklist

Each group leader must:

  • Fill out and submit a Group Registration form by the date shown above.
  • Submit Final Roster form, all participant forms (see checklists below), and final payment by the date shown above.
  • Provide each participating adult a copy of our Adult Leader Letter.
  • Provide Safe Sanctuaries training for all adult participants.
  • Provide your inexperienced youth and adults with training in the safe operation and use of basic building tools (circular saw, level, framing square, hammer, hand saw, crow bar, etc.).
  • Remember the requirement for lunch and water cooler(s)!

Participant checklists

Youth participant checklist:
Submit to your group leader the following forms:

  • Registration form
  • Parent/Guardian of Youth Waiver of Liability (notarized)
  • Adult Participant Waiver of Liability (notarized) IF AGE 18 OR OLDER
  • Authorization to Consent to Health Care (notarized) IF YOUNGER THAN 18
  • Community Covenant

Bring to camp the items on the list included on this site. (Remember: safety goggles, work gloves, a hammer and a water bottle. Put your name on each.)


Adult participant checklist:
Submit to your group leader the following forms:

  • Registration form
  • Adult Participant Waiver of Liability (notarized)
  • Community Covenant
  • Signed Safe Sanctuary form from your church stating that you have completed Safe Sanctuary training.

Read the Adult Leader Letter and make the recommended preparations.  Bring to camp the items on the list included on this site. (Remember: safety goggles, work gloves, a hammer and a water bottle. Put your name on each.)

Arrival and dismissal information

Arrival:  Groups are to arrive at Highland United Methodist Church at 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC, 27607 between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2020.

Dismissal:  We will dismiss all groups from Camp Lapihio at Umstead State Park Saturday morning, July 25, 2020 after we have completed loading and clean up of the camp and had our closing circle.  This is usually around of 11:00 a.m.
