Bahamas Mission Trip – Summer 2019

Dates/What we’ll be doing

We will be travelling to the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, to partner with Bahamas Methodist Habitat the week of July 14-20, 2019.  You can check out their website HERE.  It has all sorts of info regarding housing, what we’ll be doing, etc. Our work will most likely be in construction.

Requirements for Participation

  • Must be a church member (adult), or active participant in Highland Youth Ministries (youth). (Active means participating in Highland Youth Ministries at least twice monthly.)
  • Must have completed the 8th grade AND be 14 by the time of the trip.
  • College-aged students who are/were active in Highland Youth Ministries are welcome to participate.
  • All adults (including college-aged students) must have completed Safe Sanctuaries training.
  • Must attend all required team meetings and fundraisers
  • Priority will be given to people who have not been on an international trip before and graduating seniors

Cost

$600 total out of pocket cost for youth and adults.  $100 non-refundable deposit is due when you sign up.  The remaining balance of $500 is due by January 1, 2019.  You can pay this in installments if you like.  You can also use your pumpkin credit towards it as well.  The $500 balance becomes non-refundable once plane tickets are purchased in early January.

Registration

Youth and adults who have not been on an international trip before can register online beginning August 22, 2018.  Returning youth and adults can register online beginning August 23, 2018.  The last day to sign up is September 5, 2018.  We are currently limiting the trip to 30 people (20 youth and 10 adults).  After those spots fill up, we will create a waiting list.  Bahamas Methodist Habitat can accommodate up 50 people, so if we have more than 30 sign up, we will work with them to include everyone, although we cannot guarantee it at this point.

First team meeting

Our first team meeting will be Wednesday September 5, at 6:30pm in the youth room.  This meeting is required for all participants (excluding college students).  At this meeting we will discuss our leadership team, expectations for the year leading up to the trip, and fundraising.

**If you do not currently have a passport, or have a passport that expires in 2019 or early 2020, please go ahead and begin that process ASAP.  Passports are required to enter the Bahamas, and all team members must have one.  We will have a passport check in early January before plane tickets are purchased.  You must go in person to obtain a passport if it is your first one, or if you are a minor.  You can find more information HERE.
