Hurricane Relief

Responding to Hurricanes Harvey & Irma

What can we do?

1)Donate: UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief) is often one of the first relief agencies on the ground and one of the last ones out of any area impacted by natural disasters in the U.S.  Highland is collecting offerings for UMCOR’s relief work, designated specifically for Hurricane relief, both for Hurricane Harvey & Hurricane Irma.  Two ways to contribute:

  • Bring a check to the church with “Hurricane relief” in the memo.
  • Click here to give online.  Select the Specials – HUMC fund and put “Hurricane relief” in the “optional memo” blank.

2) Prepare Cleaning Kits (Flood Buckets)
Click here for a complete list of supplies and instructions for assembling UMCOR cleaning kits.  Feel free to bring completed kits to Highland and we’ll help get them to the MERCI Center in Goldsboro for shipment and distribution.

3) Pray.  Pray for those impacted, for communities grieving loss of property and loss of life, for Early Response Teams, and for relief coordinators.
